Wither-Lauren DeStefano

The Chemical Garden Trilogy
Book 1 : Wither
What if you knew exactly when you would die?
What if every woman died at 20?
What if every male died at 25?
Thanks to modern science, nobody dies from disease, nobody ever gets sick.
But, everybody dies early. Young girls-as young as 12- get kidnapped and auctioned off for marriage. The ones who don't get bought are killed.
When 16 year old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride she enters into a life of wealth and privilege. Despite her husbands real love for her, she is missing her brother more than anyone can imagine. Her sister wives and she are stuck in this world- some happy and some not so much. Rhine has made her decision- she must escape to her twin brother.
Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. She has fallen in love. Gabriel-the servant. All she can hope for while planning for her escape is that she does not become the latest experiment for her husband's father's experiments.

This book is a must read. It captures you it a convincing possibility for the future. It will leave you longing for book two. I loved the world that DeStefano created. The characters were convincingly real and the setting was a place you immediately wanted to see.

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars
