Hooked by Liz Fichera
Paperback, 368 pages
Published January 29th 2013 by Harlequin Teen
ISBN: 0373210728 (ISBN13: 9780373210725)

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Summary:

When Native American Fredricka ‘Fred’ Oday is invited to become the only girl on the school’s golf team, she can’t say no. This is an opportunity to shine, win a scholarship and go to university, something no one in her family has done.

But Fred’s presence on the team isn’t exactly welcome — especially not to rich golden boy Ryan Berenger, whose best friend was kicked off the team to make a spot for Fred.

But there’s no denying that things are happening between the girl with the killer swing and the boy with the killer smile...

GET HOOKED ON A GIRL NAMED FRED.

HE said: Fred Oday is a girl? Why is a girl taking my best friends spot on the boy's varsity golf team?

SHE said: Can I seriously do this? Can I join the boys' team? Everyone will hate me - especially Ryan Berenger.

HE said: Coach expects me to partner with Fred on the green? That is crazy bad. Fred's got to go - especially now that I can't get her out of my head. So not happening.

SHE said: Ryan can be nice, when he's not being a jerk. Like the time he carried my golf bag. But the girl from the rez and the spoiled rich boy from the suburbs? So not happening.

Ranting:

(3.5 stars)
Okay so I liked this book, just not as much as I thought I would. The story is really unique: a Native American on a golf team falling for the golden boy. And he's the one falling harder.
The cover is deceiving. No me gusta. You would think that this book would be much steamier than it is. Seriously, they ,like, never kissed. Ever. Grrrrr. Like I said it's deceiving. I didn't say I didn't like it. I do. Love it actually, but it was more like what it MAY be like in the future.
And Liz Fichera uses some weird words.
Ex.
Cheddar=money
And in one sentence she used epic as a bad thing. Epic means it amazing and way cool. It was something you'll never forget. Ever. It's something special. This is how is where it should be used--> yummy looking ice cream, good game plays, complimenting (Dude, the way you landed the half-pipe was epic)
Cheddar is cheese, not money.
Overall I thought the way the author dealed with racism was good, but not as good as it could have been. She mostly addressed it with Ryan and Seth. Ryan was the one who was bothered by it and Seth was just an idiot. I also thought it was convenient how they all had crappy parental units.
The way they brought in Ryan's mom (how her and Fred met) was adorable. I. Loved. It.
I loved the way the other's on the Rez were supportive of Fred. It just shows how loved she is even when she doesn't know it. Hahaha. And she seriously doesn't know it. Buuuuut, they weren't even really in the book for like the first half.
I liked how Liz tied in the motorcycle thing with Seth and Ryan. Clever.

Overall the transitions and the way everything tied together was really good, but it lacked on the whole believability (Cheddar) and needed to dig a bit deeper.

+This book was addicting: finished in a couple of hours

****I was provided a free copy from Goodreads First Reads in exchange for a honest review****

ISBN: 0312624670 (ISBN13: 9780312624675)
"Don't miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams. Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen...." Taken from the back of the novel
C.C. Hunter lives in Spring, Texas where she's at work on her next Shadow Falls novel. ---> www.cchunterbooks.com
Summary:
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

What I think and a few Quotes...

I can't tell you how much I loved this book. I seriously laughed out loud so much while reading it-and my family can testify to that!
Okay, so basically this book has three major themes: discovering who you really are, love or lust and friends can change and won't always last forever. The last one's not as present as much as the other two though.
“I think he likes you" Miranda Whispered.
Realizing she and Derek had drawn attention, she glanced away. "He's probably just curious about me like everyone else" she whispered back.
"Nope. He's hot for you" Della said, reminding Kylie of the supernatural hearing of some of the campers. "When he was sitting by you at lunch, he oozed so much testosterone that it was hard to breathe. He wants your body" Della teased.

"Well, he's not getting it" Kylie said.”

 Love=Derek
Lust=Lucas
Kylie is dealing with a super hard time right now. Her parents are getting a divorce but she doesn't understand why. (she finds out later in the novel though) Her supposed Ice Queen mom and 'perfect' dad (my eyes are rolling here) seemingly don't want her anymore and send her off to a camp for 'troubled' teens-which is really a camp for supernaturals. Through this a ghost plagues her night terror and her reality. At the camp she sorta discovers who she is-not what, and get's caught is a really well portrayed love triangle. (Lucas&Kylie&Derek)
Personally I'm team Derek all the way...well almost all the way. Hey rivers are really nice....
And although her ex Trey and her ex BFF Sara are in the book a bit, they don't really play a huge part in it. I liked that. Oh and Holiday is AMAZING and sweetie....are you blind? Burnett has the hots for you...... *shakes head it pity*
“I mean, if your about to tell me something like I'm dead, that i need to start acquiring a taste for blood, and I can't even eat sushi, I wont be able to handle it. Or if you're going to tell me that I'm going to start howling at the moon, eating peoples cats, and will spend the rest of my life having to get waxed if I want to wear a bathing suit, then I don't think I can handle it, either. I like cats and I tried waxing once, and that hurt like a son of a gun." -Kylie”
I thought the cover was really fitting. Now I'm kinda digging deep here. Kylie is standing in the middle of a tree with a fork. Kinda like a fork in the road, yah know? It kinda symbolizes that things are gonna change and she's gonna have to choose-she can't have both. Mom or Dad. Old friends or new ones. Old LIFE or new one. To stay at the camp or go. Lucas or Derek. All of these are choices and yeah, tree in half, her in the middle. And besides that, it's just a really cool cover. I'm just little ol' me. Appreciating the deeper meaning.
So yeah. 4 Stars

Say Yes to the
Book
Oh yeah there are 4 more books in the series---> look on Goodreads guys!!

Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles, #1)

Alice in Zombieland, Gena Showalter

Kindle Edition, 416 pages
Published September 25th 2012 by Harlequin Teen
ASIN: B008EN9OG6
3 stars
Summary:
She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real.
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.

My Splurge:
Well, I'll just start off with this is not exactly what I was expecting. I'm still not sure if that was really good or bad. Huh. Before everything I can tell you this appeals more towards general paranormal romance fans that fans of horror and such. The gore factor is a 0-0.5 while the other stuff is more of a 7 or 8(out of 10). Well, here goes nothing.

Alice_headshot[1]
Ali
Alice(Ali) is a shy, stubborn, not easily intimidated, funny with a sense of humor (Ali to Frosty and it's not at all what you're gonna think)"Okay, here’s a hint. A lot of people were there. There was some screaming, definitely some writing. A looot of touching." girl of 16 that has had everything taken from her but given enough to survive. Although she doesn't know it yet. Since the car crash her sister has been watching her and every time _____ is about to happen she puts a white rabbit in the sky(that's about was original Alice in Wonderland as we get....besides her name)

Ali's little sister actually played at pretty decent part of the book for being killed so early in the book. She was the watcher and felt a sense of protection over her older, zombie slaying sister (how cool is that title?!?!)
http://apps.genashowalter.com/aiz/cole-badge-small.jpg Cole is this super hot, bossy zombie slaying who in the beginning wants to push her us against the  wall and kiss her until they're both breathless and that makes him want to kill her. Later in the book he just wants to kiss her...or kill her....maybe just some of both. hehe. And what's even more adorable about them....he's so protective of her and it is too freaking well.... adorable. Lol "“Cole was watching Justin as if he wanted to flay the skin from his bones, throw it down and play “Dance, Dance Revolution” on it.”( this is Ali's thought as Justin-another boy who likes her- walks away from her)
You guys have no idea how happy I was when they finally kissed. It was amazing and steamy and (almost) perfect. THANKS A LOT FROSTY!!! grrrrr
Cole
Cole
*Poppy+Bronx....unexpected but amazing.*
Oh and by the way, I hate you Wren and Justin and Jaclyn.....you bring shame to the name. So glad its not spelled the same or I'd have a fit. Hmph.

Grandparents slang/dating/sex talk omg hahahahhahahhahhhahahaha I seriously almost died like every time they tried to do teenage slang. Nobody does it like us. (;

OMG KAT! I love her so much. She was an amazing addition to the story. He ego was sky high and wrapped around the world. I wanted her and Frosty back together asap. Like a week ago. They are perfect they should have never broken up. Well I understand why they did....
Kat Parker
Kat

“"He ignored me, thank God, saying to Kat, "Let go of Frosty's leash. You're choking the life out of him."
Kat's eyes narrowed to tiny slits, a sure sign of her aggression. "He deserves to choke. He didn't keep little frosty in his pants this summer." the words snapped like a whip.
"He did." Cole snapped back with unwavering confidence.
"Not."
"Did."
"Not!"
"Did,"
"Not, not, not!" she shouted with a stomp of her foot.
"What are we five?" Cole said.

"Six.”

I felt so sorry for her. And I loved how she was always like "True Story" twas hilarious.

I loved how at the end all the guys who are Zombie Hunters are all like big brothers to Ali.

In the end, like I said not AIW but may be good may be bad....that's for you to decide.
