1. Never have I ever read a book that has a character with such genuine character growth. I’ve never realized that all the other growths are, in fact, Sort Of Growths. Growing hidden behind love. NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRST is compelling. Parker Grant has Rules. These are a huge part of what makes her who she is. Especially Rule Infinity. This book shows her growth though, over, and around her own rules. All while figuring out her place in the world and what it means to trust.

2. THAT COVER IS JUST YES. The whole design is just yes. I mean there is brail design all over this thing. And the colors are sooooooo pretty. Love. Love. Love.

3. FRIENDSHIP. The don’t abandon, can’t be without, you are my Actual Soul Mate, forgiving friendship. I can’t even. This is what ever person wants in a friendship. There is not Parker with out Sarah. There’s Molly. There’s Faith. Hell- there’s even D.B. who’s name is actually Kent. There’s Scott. These characters are dynamic and real and they have flaws. But they don’t wear their flaws like there’s something wrong with being imperfect, but instead they allow themselves to be friends with others because of their flaws. Because what is one person’s weakness is the other’s strength. One is the eyes. The other is the ears. Sarah and Parker.

4. I thought I would have issues with the romance but I SO DIDN’T. I mean, they were together in eighth grade. However, Parker knew the apparent strangeness was of finding The One that young. But, hell, I don’t know why I wasn’t annoyed by it. But I wasn’t. I loved it. I loved that they were just stupid kids, dumb and in love, making stupid kid mistakes over stupid ideals. I loved that they weren’t perfect. And that the whole issue-TRUST- wasn’t placed on a single person. The romance was something I wasn’t expecting to love. And it came slowly. It built until I couldn’t help loving it something fierce.

5. So unique. I love this book, if you can’t tell. It deals with so many issues with out being all like shove-all-problems-into-YA. Suicide, death, failing friendship, distrust, blindness, insecurity, fear, not dealing with your emotions in a healthy way, abandonment, divorce. Lindstrom deals with everything. He leaves nothing out. I’m in complete awe.

Okay so the moral of this story is read this story.

Christ this was an action packed book. And it had spikes of (oh so lovely) romance. Yes, I did finish this is one day. How I love the weekend ☺
I know what I'm about to say is strange but I actually like Tristan better than Gideon in this. Me falling for the angel instead of the demon? When does this EVER happen? I don't know either. Remember these two names while reading this book (cause you will read it): Sun and Moon
There's this girl and she's basically in WPP. Her dad is in the CIA and her mom is a fashion goddess. She's a prize fighter who cares too much and is very lonely. *sigh*
I'm just gonna do a character list
Abby- This is the girl who cares too much, can take down Army dudes fighting and is pretty bad ass. Oh, she's also the reason I don't like the ending to the story
Tristan- I really wish he got more face time in this book. Yes, I know I was supposed to fall for Gideon and his bad boy trying to turn good for the girl his universe revolves around way....but what can I say? He did the whole Ultimate Sacrifice thing. I love him.
Gideon- Yes okay! I like him! I don't love him, but I like him. I have a theory that I can't share with you cause it has a (I think) major spoiler. He's adorable, even when he wants to kill her and the whole need to be with her and kill anyone who even thinks about her.

The writing was actually really nice too. Flowed really well. Humm....Not much else I have to rant about.

Although I adore it ( I really do ) I'd have liked to see real people posing the characters.

She knows what it's like to be trapped, to be free, to be happy, to be sad, to be in love and to be loved. She lets her emotions shine through her writing. There's no lies or sugar coated fantasies in her writing, just the straight truth.

"You're my nova. You light me up."

Kacvinsky made me want to buy a camera and travel the world taking pictures of seemingly ordinary things only to discover the unique laugh lines and the way the sun hits a salamander a certain way. I want to go to Hong Kong and Brazil. I want to make people smile as we discuss why croissants are called croissants and not crispy, flaky buttery goodness or melt in your mouth bread item. 

I want to document everyone of my thoughts just so I can replay them and listen. Most of all, I want to live in the moment and not plan a single thing. How crazy is that? To not know whats going to happen next? To do something because YOU love it, not because it's been planned for you?
This book, well, these two books, First Comes Love and Second Chance, makes me want to find who I am. 

 "All around the room I'm reminded of love, so why do I feel like its being yanked out from under my feet?"

This is not just a book to me. It helped me realize that every single thing has beauty, people are just lost souls looking for their sun. Some people need a constant sun, some need a moon.
Okay, enough about me. Let's talk literature. 

The characters in this book are so pronounced. It amazing. Dylan is by far the best character I have ever read. Ever. She's a traveler looking for herself in every person she meets, and she finds bits and pieces of herself in everyone. She's a puzzle with her pieces scattered all around the world. Dylan can't stay in one place for long and she changes everyone she meets: helps them find love, in people, places, ideas...themselves. She is by no means perfect but she just makes people Better. How amazing is that? She sets goals without restraints. Make someone happy, do something nice, get a new perspective (even a squirrels), do something random, give something a story. It's.....well....amazing. There is no one else like her.

And Gray. He is just so broken. He's still learning who he is when Dylan has herself all figured out. He was a caged bird and Dylan set him free. His twin sister died and only in Dylan did he ever really figure out what he had been missing. His guitar, baseball, people, himself and love.
In each other they found a mad, passionate love that is one for the history books. It was epic filled with jumping on train cars and giving churches a history and going to abandoned towns and hikes and picture taking. It was adventurous and scary and so, so real. 

Kacvinsky is an amazing writer. Every single emotion portrayed in these pages was so real: the heartbreak, the love, the pain, the acceptance. She wrote this book in a way that's more about finding yourself in pieces of the world. Everything has a story, whether you write it or there is one written down.
Bacon even has a song, for crying out loud.

 "I learned that the heart, our most vital organ, turns out to be our weakest link. It's scary to think something so necessary to sustain us, protected in a cradle of ribs and flesh and muscles, is so fragile, so easily broken."

I finally understand why people use highlighters on books. I never ever do that, but if I had a paper back copy of this, I totally would.

So please, please do yourself a favor and get your hands on these books as fast as you can. You'll never regret it. So sorry, Mr. Green, Katie has replaced you as my favorite author. Don't worry you're a close second!

  I'll start out with I LOVE how Katie writes. It's so different and so real. The characters thought and actions aren't predictable or in the norm. You could immerse yourself in this book- get lost in it. And I did. I finished it in 2 hours. Did I love it? Hell yes.
It was falling in love at it's finest. A true contemporary romance. So juicy with heated kisses and stolen glances. It was falling with out drowning. In falling in love, the characters found themselves. That's whats supposed to happen, right? You're supposed to find the part of yourself that you had been missing for so long. Its a homecoming.
The ending was one I though was going to be bitter, but it was oh so sweet. It's a 'I can't live without you love. '

Dylan needs to move. She can't stay in one place for too long-to leave or to stay? That is the question.
I just love love.

This book was really short in comparison to most of the other books I've read, but it wasn't rushed it all. It felt like real life. Perfection.
And the cover??? Uhmmm, major cover lust.

 And, what else is amazing? I got the second book FREE on my Kindle like a month ago!!!!

Review: The Flute Player by Shawn Mihalik (and an Interview with Shawn)

What to say, what to say, what to say? This book is not usually something I would pick up. It has a kind of reality that's entwined with an amazing fantasy of dragons and knights; with flute players and coma patients that can travel to unseen lands. Just beyond the mountains.
Oliver, the young flute player who had to grow up way faster than any child should ever have so, feels trapped. And he is. Day after day he is forced into the same boring routine. Wake up at the butt crack of dawn to play to the villagers. To bring them joy. To let them feel what he feels, except he feels no joy when he plays. In the middle of the days he writes music, or at least tries to...because, in all honesty, he really can't. At night he plays his people something to sooth them into comforting dreams.
Then he finds her. His reason to keep going. His light.
And he has to give her up. He has to help her home. But what if she doesn't want to go home? At least, not just yet? While in this dream-like world he begins to question his sanity, as does she. He finds a friend in her, some one who will finally talk to him and not look at him with awe, she looks at him like maybe they could be friends.

“All is ephemeral, Oliver, all of it. And it's your job now to make it last forever.”

Shawn's writing is really, really good. Just a few missing commas. This was kind of a strange thing to read. NOT IN A BAD WAY I SWEAR. I mean it felt like some one was telling me the story and I was seeing it through some one else's eyes. I have two of those in my head. Yes they work just fine....well, with glasses. But other than that, they're fine.
Simply put, I'm not really sure how to react to it. I liked it just fine. It was just so unusual. At least for me it was.
I read to escape reality and this book let me stay in reality, not something that usually happens. And I'm still not sure if that's good or bad...
Whatever, I enjoyed reading it. 

It's a lovely April day....Shawn and I are in Venice. We just sat down for a cup of tea. After I had a few moments to relax....we begin our interview:

Me: What was the hardest/easiest part about writing The Flute Player?

 Shawn: The easiest part was writing the first draft. I actually wrote the first draft about five years ago when I was in high school over the period of about a month, but at the time the book was this sappy, terribly written, unpublishable love story. 

I had to grow a lot over the next several years in order to eventually revisit the book and realize what it was really about and rewrite it. That was the hardest part.

Me: What/Who was your inspiration for your main character and their relationship with each other? (In The Flute Player)

Shawn: My seventeen-year-old self was the inspiration for Oliver, the book's central character. At first he was based on myself as I saw myself at that time, and then, when I rewrote the book, he was still based on that same teenaged me, but the teenaged me that I was able to see that I truly was, in retrospect. If that makes any sense.

The other characters weren't based on anyone in particular, although Alexandria was named for someone special, which I guess answers the question about the character's relationship, too, doesn't it?

Me: Do you have a favorite place to write?

Shawn: I like to write just about anywhere that's quiet, and early I find I'm usually only able to write early in the day. I like to do my editing in more crowded places, though, places like coffee shops or libraries or parks—this helps contrast the loneliness that can be part of the act of writing.

Me: What advice you you have for beginner authors?

Shawn: Just write something. Having written something is the first, and therefore most important, step to becoming a writer. Everything else comes after.

Me: What do you think is the best cure for writers block?

Shawn: This may be different for other writers, but for me, it's doing anything other than writing. Becoming engrossed in a long novel, going for a long walk or going rock climbing, even watching an entire season of Battlestar Galactica on Netflix. Of course, eventually, you still have to sit back in the chair and write, even if you still have the writer's block.

Me: How did you come up with the title for The Flute Player?

Shawn: Coming up with the title was a relatively straightforward process. The main character is a flute player, so that's what I called the book. Although I did consider calling it The Flautist, but that didn't have the same ring. Or any ring at all.

Me: Is there any music that helped you write The Flute Player?

Shawn: Not really. In fact, I didn't even know how to play an instrument when I first wrote the book. There's a scene in the book where the main character, Oliver, writes a song—I had to consult with a musician friend of mine on this scene several times. 

I do play the ukelele now, though. Everyone should play the ukelele.

Me: How did you come up with the idea for The Flute Player?

Shawn: I wish I could remember, honestly, but it sort of just developed as I wrote it, at least the first draft. Like I said, the first draft was this sappy love story about a flute player and this girl and dragons and a knight, but when I revisited the draft years later, I realized that the book was really about transitioning to adulthood, and all the fantastical elements where just a way to tell that story.

Mara's 'friends' are dead. Why? She just thinks she got lucky-the only one of the four who survived that trip into the old, abandoned psych ward. But she's not. She's so much more than she thinks. She suffers from PTSD. Normal, right?

She thinks she's doesn't have the ability to fall in love after all she's been through.
She can.

The only way anyone will ever find out what happen the night of the psych ward. Everything comes with a price and sometimes, it's better to just...not know.

Okay world, I might just absolutely love this book. It's got all these twists and turns. It has Noah, a hot guy who just want to be with you- to make you happy and figure out what you're hiding and help you mend. It has Jamie. That's enough said. He is freaking amazing. I love him.

And the END. OMG dude. Was not expecting that. The ending will leave everyone peeing their pants and in shock.

 Well, I feel like I've been sucked into Twilight with Mr. Darcy with fangs. :/ Yeah not really sure how I'm reacting to this right now. I think it's rather strange but cute. Except for those moment when she's all like "Ohhhhh he is just soo hard to resist! I just fall into his eyes! The way he smells(: I don't care if he wants to suck my blood, he took me to see faries and I just looooove him"<----Yeah those moments make me want to slap her. Hard. SNAP OUTTA IT GURLIE! 

And there was that onee scene where the chick who turned him and did a total James (from Twilight) move with the whole 'let's act like the breakable human is a doll and throw her against hard surfaces! FUN!" *eye roll*

Lol(: According to my Kindle I am 55% done with it, but I have tons of HW from school, so I don't really know when I'll be done.

I feel like I should cackle evilly or something...been waiting to read this for what seems like FOREVER!

The Summary: 

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen — literally, ouch! — both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts.
