Music major Maddie Taylor just finished her junior year of college and has a summer internship lined up with the LA Philharmonic, yet every night she practices guitar and secretly dreams of a louder life. But geeky girls like her don't get to be rock stars. That is, until tattooed singer Jared Cross catches her playing guitar and invites her to join his band on The Sound, a reality TV show competition.
Once on the show, Maddie discovers there’s more to Jared than his flirty smile and bad boy reputation – and that he’s just as big a geek as she is. With each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore, but when the show pressures them to stay single they’re forced to keep their relationship secret.

Honestly, I was super amazingly excited about this one. I mean with that cover, how could I not? It’s freaking gorgeous. (Can I get a book poster, just so I can have THAT on my wall!? I’m serious) From the blurb I see the potential of a musical power couple that blows the competition away. I looked forward to girl power and mad guitar skills. I looked forward to a TOTALLY swoon central guy with a voice that makes angels look forward to losing their wings. Sadly, I did not get that.
I got a girl who frequently got stepped on. Who did follow her dreams, but let too many things distract her. I got a guy who just got on my nerves. I mean the whole reunion and that one moment on stage were adorable. But all the other times I really (like REALLY) wanted to hit him on the head with his bass. That’s pretty much all I got on the characters. I was disappointed with their development. To me, they felt rather two-dimensional.
The Sound was The Voice. Except it took all the annoying aspects. Again, *bangs head on computer keys*
When all is said and done, this was a super easy, quick read that required no though process. Personally, this isn’t one that I’d recommend. I MEAN I FALL FOR EVERY FICTIONAL GUY OUT THERE BUT I DIDN’T WITH THIS ONE? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!
